The Plot
Mary and Joseph are engaged to be married in Nazareth, a town in Galilee. The Angel Gabriel appears to Mary in a dream, explaining that God has chosen her for a very important job - to give birth to his only son! Meanwhile, the Roman Emperor, Caesar Augustus, decrees that every man, woman and child return to their place of birth, so that a census may be taken. A heavily pregnant Mary therefore travels to Bethlehem on the back of a donkey, with Joseph walking beside. After struggling to find a place to stay, a kind innkeeper offers them use of his stable, and baby Jesus is soon born in the hay and cradled in a manger. After an angelic message, and the appearance of a bright star in the night sky, some shepherds and three travelling kings make their way to the lowly stable, offering the new baby precious gifts and vowing to follow him forever!
